Abstract

This paper presents the concept of immersive point of audition as an original theoretical contribution from doctoral research on object-based audio mixing technologies, namely Dolby Atmos and MPEG-H, and their application to domestic audiovisual consumption. Drawing on cinema sound theory and the established notion of point of audition, the research proposes
the immersive point of audition as an auditory experience in which three-dimensional sonic spatiality constructs a perceptual
sharing between spectator and diegesis, generating sensations of incorporation and co-presence. A film analysis of Society
of the Snow (2023), available on Netflix with Dolby Atmos support, examines how object-based mixing strategies concretize
the immersive point of audition in domestic settings. The paper also considers the implications of MPEG-H adoption for Brazilian
TV 3.0 broadcasting, exploring continuities between immersive audio in streaming and terrestrial television.
